Making Good Men Better

Greetings Brothers,

I hope and trust that all are well at this point in this Pandemic.

I want to let you know how honored I am to be elected as Worshipful Master by the brethren of this Lodge. It Seems like a truly short time ago that I was going through the Grand Masters one day class, after which I started attending our meetings to see what I had been missing. On this Masonic journey I have met many good brothers, most of whom I would not have met but for the opportunities afforded to me by being a member of this great lodge. Now, only six short years later I find myself serving as Worshipful master. It has certainly been a whirlwind ride.

The past year was particularly challenging as   COVID-19 put a huge damper on our 150th. Year by stopping most of our business meetings as well as our social and community events. However, we were able to award the Kyle Adkins scholarship to Casey Meyer of Goshen high school, and we were most fortunate to have had a small window of opportunity to observe our 150th Year Lodge Re-consecration Ceremony.    Most Worshipful Brother Keith Newton and the Grand Lodge Officers presented us with  an excellent ceremony.

One interesting thing that happened last year, due to COVID-19, we were  introduced to ZOOM , an internet-based video conferencing  platform which  allowed all brothers, both near and far, , the opportunity to participate in our virtual meetings and  Masonic Education programs. The response has been outstanding.

The renovation of our dining room is complete and looks wonderful.  We were in dire need of this remodel.   Thanks to all those who stepped up and participated in the project, the volunteer effort greatly reduced the financial impact to the lodge’s finances.   The refurbished space will truly help to make hall rentals an enhanced source of revenue for the lodge.

COVID-19 is still with us causing concern whether we can achieve our goals for this Masonic year.  Never the less the committees are pushing forward and planning events and I am hopeful that we may still be able to have our planned social and community activities, including a fundraiser, ( to keep the memory of Kyle Adkins alive in the schools) and to help maintain the scholarship fund.   I am also hopeful that we will have our Annual flag retirement and Awards ceremony as well as the Union Township Police Night Out event so that we may keep our community involvement alive and well.  Additionally, I am planning some small social events to reconnect the brothers and have some fellowship.

Projects and improvements at the lodge that still need to be accomplished this year are the addition of our outside patio with memorial pavers that members have purchased, finish relocating the AC units, and we have another Eagle Scout Candidate adding a paver walking path to our Community Garden.

I would like to encourage all who have not done so to sign up on the Ohio Grand Lodge “Grand View” website.   There is a plethora of information available as well as educational resources, and links to our ZOOM meetings.

I would also like to see as many as can come to our in-person lodge meetings as soon as you feel comfortable attending.  We do have masks and hand sanitizer at the lodge, and we are attempting to meet all the state standards for our facility. This is a great opportunity to see old friends and make some new ones.

If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me.

Be safe.
